About Dave Lao
Dave Lao is a Canadian tattoo artist specializing in black and grey work. Growing up just outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba, he has always had a passion for creativity and has always been inspired by different forms of art. From sketching in class and not paying attention, Dave has always taken an artistic approach to his daily activities. Throughout his childhood, he spent a lot of time designing comics with close friends. Dave and his friends shared imaginative values by doodling different fictional characters and creating story-like scenarios that all tied into a comic book. Although he had a creative perspective in art, he always shied away from realism art- Fearing it would be too difficult to master. Working construction for ten years and unsatisfied with his position, one day he decided to pick up the pencil and try drawing realistic images. After tons of practice, staying up late on many occasions, and finally committing to the riskiest decision of his life… He decided to quit his well-paying career and start tattooing. Dave has been tattooing for a few years now, experimenting with different types of subject matter, shading techniques and designs. Remaining in the genre of black and grey realism; he specializes in portraits. He is constantly trying to reach new ground with his technical ability while pushing the envelope and striving to always reach the next level. He currently works in Winnipeg, tattooing out of a private studio he calls Lone Wolf Studios. Lone Wolf Studios is a humble shop in a quiet location where Dave can focus on the task at hand, creating a more personal experience for himself and his clients.
